What is Anzac Day?

ANZAC Day, observed on 25 April, is a significant day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand, commemorating the service and sacrifice of those who have served in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. It marks the anniversary of the landing of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) at Gallipoli in 1915 and has come to honour all who have served, including those who did not return home and the families and communities who supported them. Through dawn services, marches, moments of silence and the laying of wreaths, ANZAC Day provides an opportunity to remember, reflect and express gratitude. For a Jewish community, it can also be a time to remember Jewish Australian service members and to reflect on the Jewish values of courage, sacrifice, service and zachor — the responsibility to remember.

Each year it has become a tradition of this synagogue to celebrate Anazac Day with a speaker and a luncheon after the service. Dignatories from Local, State and Federal government together with NSW Police, Fire Brigrade and Ambulance Services are invited to join our kehilla in remembering the Anzacs.
